Who We Are

Bridges for Communities is a Bristol-based charity that connects people of different cultures, races and faiths, enabling them to build friendships and grow in their understanding of one another. Bridges was founded in 2010 by Dan & Karen Green, who were living in the Middle East at the time and were seeking ways for young people from the UK and the Middle East to be able to meet and build understanding and trust. When they moved back to the UK in 2012, they began to develop other initiatives and programs such as Peace Feast, and since then have been gradually adding projects to the Bridges portfolio. Bridges now has a fantastic team of people and works with some amazing volunteers to make the magic happen!

Our Team

DAN GREEN

Dan is the co-founder and Managing Director of Bridges. He leads the Bridges team and oversees the Connecting and Equipping areas of our work.

NIC HOPE

Nic is the Project Manager of b.friend, providing one-to-one support for asylum seekers and refugees through our amazing volunteers.

BUSHRA ALSAKKAF

Bushra runs our programme of Bristol Welcome events and plays an invaluable supporting role with Resettlement b.friend, Walk With Me and Cultural Training.

KAREN GREEN

Karen is a co-founder of Bridges and oversees the Resettlement B.friend and Walk With Me programmes.

KATIE COLLIER

Katie is our Grants & Trusts Fundraiser. She helps us with funding applications and supporter relations.

MARK & SARAH EVANS

Sarah and Mark are the Bridges representatives for Cardiff, Wales. They are also the visionaries behind Peace Feast!

ROSE CODNER

Rose is our RefuLingua Project Manager and Office Administrator. She coordinates the Arabic tutoring programme and keeps us running smoothly.

ANGELA MACKMAN

Angie is our Craft Collective Coordinator, bringing together asylum seekers, refugees and local volunteers to learn basic sewing skills and create things.

ANNA WRIGHT

Anna is the Project Manager for Bristol Schools Linking, which brings children from different backgrounds together through classroom connections.

WALA ALBOUTI

Wala is our RefuLingua Project Assistant, helping to develop teaching materials and supporting our tutors.

MARK WALTERS

Mark is our Operations Manager, overseeing the administration, finances and internal operations of the charity.

ASIA YOUSIF

Asia is our Peace Feast Events Manager, organising our programme of monthly Peace Feasts across the city.

IZZY DAY

Izzy is our Community Engagement Worker, enabling volunteers and local communities to engage in our Afghan response and Walk With me programmes.

DAN MORRICE

Dan is our Communications Lead, helping to tell the stories of what we do and the people we work with.
